Sometimes the road just stops
It does not turn or bend or intersect
    But breaks
Hard as the wrecks for which every road is named

I get out of the car to howl
    Seeing how it ends
At the spot where it should continue on
    There’s nothing left

Yet somehow, still, I find myself driving
On another evening, along the road
I’ve nearly forgotten how it ended
    Not too long ago

Until it breaks again, and I,
Cloven by the sight
Exit, close my door and walk
    ‘Til I forget that night

Sometimes the road just stops
The lines go no further, cut in two
At some turns where, just beyond the curve,
You hope to see the light shine
The exit, respite for your eyes
Yet, nothing.

A stunted street
Unfinished way
A chasm in the night
